Most IT (software) Assets have a right of use that can be purchased through a license (or subscription). Licenses and subscriptions – like IT (software) Assets – have a life cycle. However, the (software) license follows the supplier’s replacement cycle and this is usually not aligned with the use of the software in the organisation. If software is purchased as a service, the supplier’s replacement cycle by definition sets the standard. For every organisation it is a challenge to build and to retain its know-how of the ever-changing licenses, subscriptions and contracts.
